Creating Space…To Tune In
Is it just me or has this winter been particularly challenging? And I’m not talking about the weather. I’m talking about the overall sense of well-being. Lately, I’ve been struggling more mentally and emotionally than what feels typical- even for winter. In a recent conversation with a friend she also talked about how she’s even been sicker physically. I can certainly relate to that too. I think I’ve taken at least 4 COVID tests so far this year, all negative - yet sniffles and congestion and whatever else have been brutal! And she’s not the only one who shared similar thoughts - but anyway, I digress.
I’ve been MOODY! And I’m not talking my typical Cancer (💜) mood swings. I’m talking someone grab me by the shoulders and shake me because I can’t snap out of this funky mood. My energy has been low, my inspiration nearly non-existent.
But today I had an epiphany. Rather than speed through my morning routine so I can “get to work” I really chose to make it purposeful, intentional. I listened to my intuition about what type of meditation was right for today. I answered my body’s calling for an unguided yoga flow, and once that was done it guided me right into a beautiful pigeon flow with one of my favorite yoga instructors on the Peloton digital app. After a brief journaling session (all this while sipping my favorite tea) I truly felt refreshed. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
Last week, out of the blue I had an urge to take a bath - salts, essential oils, candles, magazine. The whole bit. I’m usually not a luxuriate in the bath kinda person - There goes that “rush mentality again”. But this was another situation where I paused and asked myself “what is it I need right now?” and the bathtub is where my internal compass led me. So far I’m 2 for 2 on tuning in. I’m feeling renewed and refreshed in a way that has been otherwise fleeting this winter. I’m realizing it’s not one particular thing. It’s just listening. Listening to that deeper inner knowing within. I started browsing some articles, curious if there was more to it. I had to laugh, as essentially this is more a less a form of a mindfulness practice. I honestly didn’t even think of it that way initially. But it does boil down to - “What is here now?” “What do I need right now?” I really liked the connection this particular article made between practicing mindfulness and treating mood disorders. Check it out if you’d like to explore more of the science behind it all.
Even if you don’t dig any deeper, I think I’m on to something, but I want to know- What do you think? How will you tune in and nourish your inner spirit? Or maybe this is something you’ve already become pretty skilled at? What works for you? I wanna hear about it! Drop me a line below, or connect with me on IG.
Sending you so much love 💕
Namaste.
